KUCHING, April 8: A 1.3-acre site behind Public Bank 7th Mile has been identified for the proposed development of the Kota Sentosa night market, with an estimated cost of RM1 million, aimed at relocating illegal hawkers into a safer and more organised environment.

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap today conducted a site visit alongside officers from the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) to the proposed area.

“The council has identified the location as a strategic spot to accommodate hawkers operating informally within Kota Sentosa, ensuring a more structured, hygienic, and secure trading environment,” he said in a statement today.

During the visit, MPP officers briefed Yap on the project’s scope and highlighted the estimated RM1 million development cost.

They also requested that part of the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocation under Yap be considered to support the initiative.

Yap emphasised that the proposal would be carefully studied to balance the needs of the local community, the welfare of hawkers, and the long-term planning of Kota Sentosa.

“We want a win-win solution – hawkers are provided with a better and more conducive place to conduct their businesses, while the community benefits from a cleaner, safer, and more organised environment,” he added.

He reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating closely with MPP and relevant stakeholders to ensure the development brings meaningful, long-term benefits to the people of Kota Sentosa. — DayakDaily
