BINTULU, Sept 8: A section of the Tanjung Kidurong landfill, spanning about one acre, caught fire this afternoon amid scorching hot weather.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) was alerted to the incident at around 1.31pm and quickly dispatched firefighters from the Kidurong and Bintulu stations to tackle the blaze.
Trienekens, the company managing the landfill, had already initiated firefighting efforts on both the surface and base of the landfill before Bomba’s arrival.
A water tanker and an excavator were deployed to assist in containing the blaze.
By 2.25pm, a seven-member Bomba team was still on site battling the flames.
The Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) joined the operation at 3.05pm, sending 11 personnel and a water tanker to bolster the efforts.
