Zahid gives assurance that no Rohingya refugees will be sent to Sarawak

KUCHING: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has given his assurance that Rohingya refugees seeking refuge in Malaysia will not be sent to Sarawak.

Human Resources Minister Dato Sri Dr Richard Riot Jaem said after the federal cabinet meeting today, the Federal Cabinet gave its commitment and assurance that no Rohingya would be sent to Bau and Serian districts in Sarawak.

“The cabinet meeting today, 13th September 2017, gave its commitment and assurance (that) the Rohingya seeking refuge in Malaysia will not be sent to Bau and Serian in Sarawak as reported in several local media of late, since the issue became viral on social media,” said Riot in a statement today.

Riot who brought up the issue at the cabinet meeting said the assurance was given by Zahid.

The Serian MP stressed that the news of Rohingya being sent to Sarawak was fake and called on all parties not to believe in such news.

The SUPP deputy president also urged those who have received such news via social media platforms to lodge police reports with the authorities to allow proper investigations to be conducted.
