SIMUNJAN: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri was using public toilet an example in asking teachers to think far ahead when educating today’s younger generation in their way of life and thinking so to meet the objectives of the national transformation 2050 (TN50).
“When we talk about fast pace of development, innovation, excellence human capital, we do not take the issue of cleanliness seriously,” she said at the Teachers’ Day celebration here today.
“Taking the public toilet as example, we need to change our mentality towards its cleanliness after we have used it for others to use later,” she said.
Nancy said just imagine in 50 years from now, there is no need to employ cleaners if it becomes a culture to keep the public toilet clean.
“By then, all we need is a robot to take care of the cleanliness of our public toilets,” she said, adding that TN50 is important to churn out students having an education in a holistic manner.
On the theme of the Teachers’ Day celebration, Teachers as Nation Builders, she said it reflects the significant roles and responsibilities of the teachers as agent change of the country’s development agenda.
“The responsibilities to churn out a human capital model with Malaysian identity are huge because it involves knowledgeable, possessing high moral values, responsible and the ability to achieve progressive as well as to contribute towards harmony and peace to family, society and country,” she said.
She said in carrying out these responsibilities, the teachers themselves must be competent, not just possessing knowledge, but also skills and the ability to manage human relationship in an effective and efficient ways.
Nancy reminded that today’s situation will not remain the same in 30 years’ time and therefore, there is a need to produce human capital which is capable of facing futuristic situation.
