Toyota Fortuner to be won at 10th S’wak Amateur Masters Open Golf Championship 2017

KUCHING: The 10th Sarawak Amateur Masters Open Golf Championship 2017 will be held from Sept 29 to Oct 1 at Sarawak Golf Club with a Toyota Fortuner 2.7 SRZ AT 4×4 up for grabs.

Organising chairman Dato Sri Thomas Lau said over 300 golfers will be competing in both the main Open and Invited Guest categories.

Based on the enrolment record from 2014 to 2017, Lau said the championship has successfully attracted golfers from Taiwan, Brunei, Sabah and West Malaysia.

The Open category will be played on Sept 29 to 30 (Friday and Saturday) with 120 participants.

The top 36 golfers over these two days will qualify to play the final round on Oct 1 (Sunday). The Invited Guest category will also be played on the same day.

“Prizes valued at over RM40,000 are up for grabs in the main event and invited guest categories.

“Hole-in-one prizes worth over RM18,000 are up for grabs over the three days and are to be shared equally if there is more than one winner,” said Lau at a press conference yesterday.

He said additional hole-in-one prizes worth over RM212,000 on the final day include a Toyota Fortuner 2.7 SRZ AT 4×4 valued at RM180,000 and a Harley Davidson Street 750 2015 6 speed valued at RM80,000.

The entry fee for the Open event has been set at RM300 per person.

Closing date for entries is Sept 18 at 5 pm.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing who is the patron of the event said he hoped to see a change of champion where golfers from other divisions may take over the championship which has been dominated by those from Sibu.
