KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah has just declared Taman Alamanda Indah in Jalan Matang to be the third rabies infected area.
The declaration was made today after a sample taken from a dog in the area tested positive for the virus.
With this new case, there are now 25 areas declared to be rabies-infected.
A total of 223 samples were sent to get tested. As many as 40 samples from dogs and six from cats had tested positive for rabies.
With another 19 dogs at Kampung Kranji B and Kampung Kranji Atas in Serian vaccinated today, a total of 35,471 pets including dogs, cats and 45 other animals in the state have been vaccinated.
The State Disaster Management Committee continued to caution the public to keep their pets indoors and to be observant of their behavioural changes such as increase in aggressiveness, fear of water and drooling.
