SIMUNJAN: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri urged the people to take extra precautionary measures in view of the recent Rabies outbreak here.
“Simunjan is not far from Serian and therefore should take extra precautionary measures,” she said when speaking at the “Ngiling Tikai” ceremony to mark the closing of Gawai Dayak celebration at Kampung Sekendu here yesterday.
“You should report the incidents to the headmen and the relevant authorities so to contain the spread of Rabies,” she said.
Meanwhile, Nancy, who is also the Batang Sadong MP, assured the folks of Kampung Sekendu that the government would help them re-build their houses.
The fire had made 91 folks from 15 families homeless some months back.
“At the moment, eight houses are in the process of being constructed under the Bina Baru Rumah project of the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development while another six others are being repaired,” she said.
As the member of parliament for Sadong, she said she would try to look for ways and means to ensure that those affected by the tragedy would get immediate assistance.
“With a good cooperation between the folks of Kampung Sekendu and the government, we can expedite the process of approving applications to build new houses and repair works on those houses partially destroyed in the fire,” she said.
She said proper planning of programmes and projects could also be carried out when there is a good cooperation between the people and the government.
Nancy said she is pleased that the people of Kampung Sekendu are strong supporters of the Barisan Nasional government.
“When I arrived at this village, I have noticed that the Barisan Nasional flags are being hoisted, showing that the people here are appreciative of the Barisan Nasional government,” she added.
Nancy thanked the folks of Kampung Sekendu for inviting her to attend the closing of the Gawai Dayak celebration.
She said she could be together with them as Gawai dates coincided with the Muslim fasting month.
