KUCHING, Oct 30: Sarawakian landowners who have cases pending or who are discontent over certain court decisions will be staging a peaceful protest at the Federal Court of Putrajaya this Nov 7.
Its organiser Cobbold John told DayakDaily that landowners involved in four different cases will gather in Putrajaya to express their discontentment over certain court decisions during the peaceful rally.
He was expecting about 80 Sarawakian landowners to attend.
“Some of us are landowners in the Pantu case where a judgment will be handed down on the case that day by the Federal Court. The case involves Tuai Rumah Masa and 11 other land owners.
“Another group of landowners are from among the landowners with Tuai Rumah Nyutan who recently lost their case in the Federal Court, Kuching though they won the case in the High Court and Court of Appeal.
“We are also expecting a group of Kedayan from Miri to join us. Their land case involves the land at Canada Hill.
“The fourth group of landowners are those in the case of Hilarian Besi Jinggot who lost his case in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Federal Court. He is now filing afresh in the High Court,” said Cobbold.
He said the purpose of holding the rally was to tell Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to return the land taken away by the government or private companies from the natives of Sarawak.
“We also want the whole world to know that our ancestral land has been taken away from us,” said Cobbold.
The time of meeting is set at 9am where participants will meet at the Federal Court Building entrance. — DayakDaily
