KUCHING, Nov 9: A total of RM103 million has been allocated for research and development (R&D) under the Eleventh Malaysia Plan (11MP) which is equivalent to 0.8 per cent of the state’s GDP in 2016.
Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Dato Sri Michael Manyin said that the state government
has allocated a total of RM44.3 million from state coffers for R&D under 11MP.
This is comprises RM1.8 million allocated to Craun Research Sdn Bhd; RM0.5 million for Tropical Peat Research Institute (TROPI) and RM27.5 million for the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre.
In addition to this sum, the Agriculture Research Centre under the Department of Agriculture, has been allocated RM20 million for R&D development under 11MP.
Sarawak Forest Department meanwhile, has been allocated RM8 million while Sarawak Forestry Corporation has an allocation of RM31 million for its R&D under 11MP.
Manyin who is also Tebedu assemblyman disclosed this in response to Kota Sentosa assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen who asked for the amount allocated to R&D in the state and the percentage the allocation constituted in proportion to the state’s GDP. — DayakDaily
