Penang floods: DAP must prove itself, says Masing

A massive sinkhole at Taman Bungah, Penang which appeared after incessant rain recently.

KUCHING, Nov 5: Parti Rakyat Sarawak president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing is waiting to see if and how DAP can deal with a natural disaster better than Barisan Nasional (BN).

He said every time when there was a natural disaster, the state BN would be criticised by DAP.

“When Sibu was under water, DAP was very active criticising BN for not being able to prevent the flood in Sibu.

“No matter how dedicated we are, we cannot prevent nature from its devastating effects on us,” said Masing who is Deputy Chief Minister.

Masing pointed out that state BN had tried its best to reduce flooding in Sibu.

“Frequency of flooding in Sibu has been reduced and so have been its devastating effects on Sibu due to the construction of Bakun HEP dam and Murum HEP dam.”

Now with DAP controlling Penang and the state suffering from serious floods, Masing hoped DAP could walk the talk.

“Now DAP must walk the talk. Let see whether DAP can do better for Pulau Piang than BN for Sibu,” said Masing.

The Infrastructure Development and Transportation Minister also wondered if DAP could assure Penangites that there would be no flooding in Penang.

Penang has been suffering from natural disasters brought about by incessant rain, which has resulting in widespread flooding and caused a massive landslide in Taman Bungah.

Another round of almost 24-hour rain since last night has caused flooding in most parts of Penang where some parts are experiencing flood water level of three-metres or deeper. — DayakDaily
