PBDSB: Where is the proposed Batang Ai Airport?

SRI AMAN: PBDS Baru (PBDSB) has demanded an explanation from the Sarawak government on the Batang Ai Airport which was proposed seven years ago.

On May 25, 2010, the then Minister of Infrastructure Development and Communications Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong was quoted in a local daily that there was a proposal for Batang Ai to have its own airport.

Manyin said the proposal had been submitted under the Ministry of Transport.

Cobbold John who is PBDSB president as well as the party’s proposed candidate for Sri Aman expressed his concerns over the issue.

He said the people of Batang Ai still very much rely on river transportation to commute from their longhouses to the town area.

On a related issue, Cobbold also raised questions on the the proposal to build a modern hospital to cater for the needs of the locals in Lubok Antu.

“We are less than three years towards a developed nation and Vision 2020. Are we on the right track?” said Cobbold in a statement today.

He urged the voters in Sri Aman and Lubok Antu to give PBDS Baru the mandate to represent the people in the coming parliamentary election.
