KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth hopes to see more youth representation in Parliament through the fielding of young faces in the pending general election.
Deputy youth chief Gerald Rentap Jabu said this was in line with the vision of PBB acting president Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who is also the Chief Minister.
“The youth will request for more seats in that sense. As you can see, every time when our chief minister has a speech, he always says that there should be a second echelon within the leadership, to ensure continuity.
“So we are hoping for and we also wish to have more new faces, younger faces hopefully, in the next general election,” said Gerald in a press conference after chairing a PBB Youth meeting at the party’s headquarters today.
The meeting, he said, was about preparations for the party triennial delegates’ conference or PBB convention which has been scheduled for Feb 8 to 9.
The Layar assemblyman said the Youth wing has been instructed by acting deputy president Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah who is also Deputy Chief Minister to make sure that the sub-branches and branches hold their elections from now until Dec 15.
“The purpose of the meeting was to form a working committee to streamline and monitor elections within sub-branches and branches to pave way for the PBB convention scheduled on Feb 8 to 9,” he said. — DayakDaily
