KUCHING, Oct 17: PBB Supreme Council member Datu Len Talif has revealed that PBB triennial delegates’ conference (TDC) will be held on Feb 9 next year.
He said the party is already preparing for the convention by conducting party elections at the grassroots level.
“In November, we will start with all the sub-branch elections after which we go to branch elections by mid-December.”
“After that, names of representatives will be submitted to PBB headquarters,” Len told DayakDaily recently.
He said only the representatives or the delegates from branch level will be invited to attend the PBB TDC which is commonly known as the PBB convention.
The PBB convention is held once every three years.
On the possible competition between its youth chief Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and supreme council member Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Len said he believed it would not happen.
He speculated that there might be some arrangement where Fadillah who is also vice-president of the party by virtue of his youth chief position may want to vie for a senior vice-president post vacated by its current acting deputy president Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
With Fadillah who is also Works Minister bidding for the senior vice-president post, Abdul Karim might vie for the youth chief post where in the event of winning the post, the latter automatically becomes a party vice-president.
However, Len said at the end of the day, Abdul Karim who is Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister and Fadillah might both decide to vie for the senior vice-president post.
“We are not sure what will happen. One of them might go for the senior vice-president post or both will go for it. It is allowed. Let just wait and see what happens,” Len told DayakDaily.
When former PBB president Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud suddenly announced his retirement in February 2014, he appointed the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem as his successor.
After Adenan took over, it was understood that Adenan wanted his own mandate, and a state election would be held.
It was thought then that Adenan would only hold the triennial PBB convention after the state election. However, due to unforeseen factors such as the case on delineation of new constituencies which was brought to court, the state election was delayed until May 2016, and with it, the PBB convention.
When the much loved and respected Adenan passed away unexpectedly in January 2017, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg took over the helm of the party as well as the state.
Due to all these unforeseen circumstances, the much delayed PBB convention initially scheduled to be held at the end of 2015 was delayed until Oct 2016 and later, further delayed until Feb 2018. — DayakDaily
