KUCHING, Oct 21: The number of exco members for Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth and Women wings have been increased from the initial 33 to 50.
Deputy PBB Youth chief Gerald Rentap Jabu said this at a press conference this morning after chairing a PBB Youth meeting at the party’s headquarters.
He said the change was made following the amendments to the party constitution at the last PBB convention.
The rationale for the increase was due to the fact that the number of state seats has been increased over the years, while the PBB Women and Youth representation has remained stagnant.
“Since 1978 when the youth wing started, at the time, we had only 48 (state) seats. Now we are looking at 82 (state seats).”
“(The increase in the number of exco members in PBB Youth) is to increase participation and representation of the youth at state level.
“This is in line with the changes in (the number of) DUN (State Legislative Assembly) seats, and we want to have more representation and not be limited to 33 people in the exco,” Gerald said.
Meanwhile, he also said that 50 per cent of the current youth exco are already exceeding 45-years-old and shall be moved on to the main body as they are no longer eligible to remain in the Youth wing according to the party constitution. — DayakDaily
