MIRI, 30 Oct : Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon applauds the Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Sarawak’s effort for organising Kenyah Day 2021 programme, as he describes the event as the best platform to showcase Kenyah ethnic culture.
He felt that besides using the social media such as facebook to reach out to audience especially those outside Sarawak , programmes such as the Kenyah Day help brings the Kenyah culture to outsiders especially those from Semenanjung.
Chukpai’s appreciation words were delivered by his representative, political secretary to Chief Minister Charles Balan Seling.
“Thank you Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) for giving your focus and consideration to the interior community (Kenyah) in highlighting their culture,” he added.
The Kenyah Day 2021 programme was held in collaboration between Mirifm with Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Miri.
Meanwhile, Charles hoped that this collaboration will continue to allow more events related to the Kenyah community to be held in the future.
“We need this platform to expose our culture to outsiders and being a minority group, we (the Kenyah) need to tag along with the others (majority ethnic groups),” he opined at the opening of the ‘Hari Kenyah 2021’ in Miri on Saturday.
This, he said, includes support and guidance to grow economically.
At the event, Chukpai had pledged a government grant of RM10,000 to Mirifm recreational and social club.
Earlier, RTM Sarawak director Abdull Hadi Mohd Yusoff disclosed that they are open for any ideas from Mirifm to bring Kenyah ethnic culture into broadcast TV.
“We welcome any ideas or suggestions to help highlighting the Kenyah culture to bigger audience,” he said.
Also present at the event were Miri Mayor Adam Yii, Pustaka Sarawak Miri regional manager Razak Rambili, Miri Police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari and Miri Fire and Rescue Department zone six chief Supt Law Poh Kiong. — DayakDaily.
