KUCHING, Nov 7: The 73-kilometre long access road from Sungai Baleh Bridge to the Baleh hydroelectric power (HEP) dam is 20 per cent completed.
Infrastructure Development and Transportation Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing said by 2021, the road will be fully completed where the RM9-billion dam will be linked directly to Kapit.
Masing who is also the Deputy Chief Minister said the road construction has been awarded in 15 packages.
“These packages were awarded within this year and the road is presently at the stage of 20 per cent completion,” he said in a statement today.
The 1,285 MW Baleh HEP dam is scheduled for completion in 2025 or 2026. With the access road built to reach the dam, surrounding areas will be opened up where remote villages in the area will be connected to Kapit town through roads.
A total of four bridges including Sungai Baleh Bridge linking Kapit town to the HEP project site in Putai will be built as part of the alternative road package to Baleh Dam. — DayakDaily
