KUCHING, Nov 8: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing praised Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for tabling a budget which give priority to the rural communities.

He said it was a commendable effort that Abang Johari is continuing the legacy of late Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem’s policy of going rural.

“It is good to note that the chief minister is still pursuing the late Tok Nan’s policy of going rural by putting in 53 per cent of the development funds for rural development.

“No less than RM1.5 billion out of the RM3.06 billion for rural development is for infrastructure, public utilities, agriculture and other aspects of rural needs,” said Masing who is also Infrastructure Development and Transportation Minister.

He said that the focus on rural development was correct in order to create a more level playing field.

“This focus is correct in order to have a more level playing field in terms of infrastructure development between urban and rural areas.

“It is my hope that the rural population would reciprocate government good policy accordingly,” he said in a press statement today. — DayakDaily
