Food, basic necessities reach longhouse cut off by landslide

Food items and other necessities finally reached Luing Longhouse which has been cut off for a few days.

BETONG, Dec 7: Food items and other necessities have been sent to Luing Longhouse in Betong.

The 155 residents of the 20-door longhouse have been isolated for the last few days after the longhouse was cut off following days of heavy rain.

The incessant rain had caused a landslide to occur making part of the linking road impassable to all vehicles except for motorcycles.

According to the longhouse folks, the longhouse has been cut off for the last few days.

The Welfare Department and State Civil Defence Force, today, however, managed to deliver basic items and other necessities to the longhouse.

The villagers helped in transporting the food items to their longhouse.

Food items are carried manually to Luing Longhouse which has been cut off for the last few days.

The longhouse folks also revealed that even before the recent incessant rain, the road leading to their longhouse had long been damaged even though the damage was not critical.

They said they took the initiative to repair the road themselves.

However, today, while the Welfare Department and State Civil Defence Force were sending the food items, the state Public Works Department also took immediate remedial action to repair the road.

According to the State Civil Defence Force, the weather in the area had cleared up. — DayakDaily
