MIRI, Oct 11: A dispute between members of a family turned ugly yesterday afternoon, when six cousins including two women, were detained by the police for allegedly committing gang robbery.

The suspects, aged between 20 to 44, were apprehended by the police around 2.30pm following a police report lodged by the victim.


Earlier, at around 12pm that day, the suspects reportedly barged into a house at RPR 2 Permaisuri Permyjaya, occupied by the wife of their late cousin, and began attacking her before fleeing from the scene with two cellphones belonging to the victim.

Following the incident, the 26-year-old victim filed a police report which led to the arrest of the six suspects.

According to Miri Police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari, the arrests were made at around 2.30pm on the same day, and the stolen cellphones were recovered.

In the incident, it was alleged that the victim and her father were also attacked by the suspects.

The case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang-robbery. — DayakDaily.
