KUCHING: Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) stands united with Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong in opposing the sending of Rohingya refugees to Sarawak especially in Bidayuh populated areas.
The association also condemned a fake post on social media stating that the Rohingya refugees will be sent to Bau and Serian districts as such posts may lead to racial tension.
“We in DBNA express concern over viral social media posts claiming Rohingya refugees will be sent to Bau and Serian districts, both of which are Bidayuh populated areas.
“We condemn such postings because this can lead to racial tension.
“We also stand united with our chief advisor Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong that the sending of the Rohingya refugees to Sarawak especially Bidayuh areas must be opposed,” said DBNA in a statement on Sept 11.
DBNA is of the view that it is not appropriate to send them to Sarawak, particularly Bidayuh areas, due to the concern that this would cause disruption to the prevailing peace and harmony.
The association also urged the state government to reconsider its stand if there is truth to the said social media posts.
“The state government should seriously reconsider its stand if the social media reporting on this matter has any truth, as it will have long lasting impact on the prevailing socio-cultural and harmonious relationships that has already existed among the multi-racial and multi-religious peace-loving people of Sarawak,” DBNA said.
