KUCHING, Oct 24: Due to the low awareness amongst Malaysian women of breast cancer, the management of Riverside Shopping Complex (RSC) in partnership with the Pink Ribbon Support Group Sarawak conducted the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign at RSC last Saturday (Oct 21).

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in most parts of the world. However, breast cancer awareness amongst Malaysian women is still relatively poor.

This has highlighted the need to intensify public advocacy initiatives on breast cancer awareness.

Thus, the management of RSC in partnership with the Pink Ribbon Support Group Sarawak conducted the event.

Several activities including a breast cancer talk, breast self-examination demonstration, Pink Ribbon distribution, blood donation campaign, basic health screening, facial screening, aero dance exercise and a flea market were organised.

Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring, Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali graced the one-day event.

Sharifah Hasidah spent a fair amount of time at the event. She attended the talks as well as visited the activity counters and the flea market, and later participated in the aero dance session.

Speaking at the event, she highlighted the importance of practising a healthy lifestyle through active engagement in physical exercise and healthy eating habits to maintain general good health.

The breast cancer talk was delivered by the President of Pink Ribbon Support Group Sarawak, Suriani Rapawie while the breast self-examination demonstration was moderated by  Rosmah Yahya.

The blood donation campaign, basic health screening and facial screening were manned by staff from Normah Medical Specialist Centre. — DayakDaily
