‘Budget 2018 not an election budget’

Budget 2018 was announced on Oct 27, 2017.

KUCHING, Oct 27: Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar believes that Budget 2018 is not an election budget.

He acknowledged this was the last budget before the 14th general election but it did not mean it would be an election budget.

“This is the last budget before election but you cannot say it election budget.

“There are many wish lists which have not been accommodated because the government wants to reduce the deficit, increase reserves and enhance ratings to attract investment,” said Wan Junaidi in a statement today.

He said the national budget’s basic thrust is to propel growth for the nation and at the same time, make sure that the growth will guarantee further progress, happiness and the wellbeing of the future generation.

“It also aims to reduce deficits and to increase the nation’s reserves,” stressed Wan Junaidi.

The Santubong MP also described the budget as comprehensive as people of all walks of life and age groups will benefit from the budget which Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak just read out in Parliament today.

“I can say it is really a comprehensive budget which encourages national economic growth and improves infrastructure, education, skill training, tourism, and employment, while promoting business, enterprises and entrepreneurship.

“(Let us also) not forgetting the ordinary paddy planters, rubber tappers, fishermen and etc. Even small-time businessmen and traders are not forgotten where business incentives are given while workers are taken care of.”

Meanwhile, the budget also took into consideration students and graduates. Allocations were also provided for women, children, those with special needs as well as the elderly. — DayakDaily
