KUCHING, Nov 10: Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) has stated that the Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) government fully agrees that the Land Code should be amended and will be amended.
“The Chief Minister (Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg) had made a commitment on this issue which can be seen with the establishment of a Special Task Force, headed by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas,” said BNBBC at a press conference at the State Legislative Assembly here today.
BNBBC said the Special Task Force will look into a holistic and comprehensive amendment of the state Land Code.
“We therefore, should give enough time for the Special Task Force to complete their findings and provide further recommendations, especially on the relevant sections to be amended.
BNBBC went on to explain that BN did not support the private bill of Ba Kelalan assemblyman Baru Bian because of the reason that it violates the Standing Order 82 and that the proposal was not comprehensive enough.
“The amendment YB Member for Ba Kelalan introduced was only to amend one section only, which is Section 2 without taking into consideration other sections of Sarawak Land Code which are also relevant,” said BNBBC.
Standing Order 82 states that: “No member shall appear before the Dewan or any committee thereof, in any capacity for which he is to receive a fee or reward or as an advocate for any party”. — DayakDaily
