KUCHING: Barisan Nasional is confident in capturing Pujut in the July 4 by-elections said its Chairman Datuk Amar Abang Johari Openg.
Abang Johari who is also the Chief Minister said the party have yet to decide on the suitable candidate but assured that the right person will be named after the Gawai Dayak celebrations.
“We have enough time to identify the right candidate for the challenge and I believe, it is time for the people to put their trust with Barisan Nasional,” said Abang Johari after receiving a courtesy call from Chung Hua Primary and Secondary Schools Board Management at his office in the State Assembly Building here.
Earlier, the Election Commission announced the nomination date to be on June 20.
The Pujut seat fell vacant following the disqualification of the former assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon over his nationality status during the seating last Friday.
In the 11th State Elections, Dr Ting won the seat with a majority of 1,759 votes in a four cornered fight against BN Datuk Hii King Chiong, Jofri Jaraiee (Pas) dan Fong Pau Teck (Independent).- dayakdaily.com
