SERIAN, Oct 23: The existing telecommunication towers in the State will be upgraded for 4G Internet coverage by end of this year.

Minister of Communication and Multimedia Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the upgrading works will start next week.

According to him, the Federal government is allocating RM4 billion to add to the State’s allocation of RM1 billion for the purpose, which also include building new telecommunication towers in the State.

“By end of the year, all the existing telecommunication towers in Sarawak will have 4G Internet coverage,” Annuar told reporters at his working visit to Kpg Mongkos today.

He urged telecommunication providers like Digi, Celcom and Maxis to help the government provide good Internet coverage for the people, and not merely think of making huge profits.

He added that he will continue to have engagements with the telecommunication providers for this purpose.

“As long as I receive complaints from the people about poor Internet coverage, I will continue to have engagement with them (telecommunication providers),” he pointed out.

He stressed that the Federal government is not issuing licence for new telecommunication companies to operate, thus calling the existing providers to be more sensitive and committed to providing good Internet coverage for the people. — DayakDaily.
