KUCHING, Dec 21: Tropical Storm Kai-tak which is at 337 km Northwest of Miri is expected to bring heavy rainfall to Northern Sarawak between Saturday to Sunday.
The Malaysian Meterorological Department yesterday issued a yellow alert for most northern states of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and northern parts of Sarawak.
Kai-tak will cause strong winds of more than 50kmph and waves more than 3.5 metres high over the waters off Labuan, Sabah, Sarawak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and East Johor.
Heavy rain is also expected in Northern Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
In Sarawak, divisions that may receive heavy rainfall are Limbang and Miri between the period of Saturday to Sunday.
Meanwhile, due to the incessant rain in Northern Sarawak, four families in Limbang consisting of 18 victims have been evacuated and put up at Dewan Masyarakat Trusan.
As many as 26 schools in Sarawak are inundated under floodwaters. However, as it is currently the school holiday period, flooding in these schools did not cause disruption of studies.
Nine of these schools are in Limbang, four in Lawas, three in Mukah while two in Tatau and Simunjan.
There is also one school each in Bintulu, Miri, Kapit, Sebauh, Baram and Belaga divisions. — DayakDaily
