KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s latest vision is to make money out of water where Sarawakians will become the “new Arabs”.
Abang Johari said Sarawak has plenty of water which through electrolysis, can produce hydrogen and oxygen.
He said nine litres of water can produce one kilogramme of hydrogen and one kilogram of hydrogen can produce 39.4 kilowatt of energy.
“We can sell liquified hydrogen gas to increase the revenue for Sarawak,” said Abang Johari.
In view that every country needed energy such as hydrogen, he said water could be used to increase revenue for Sarawak.
Citing Scotland and France, he said hydrogen has been used in these countries to drive vehicles.
“We are going to use hydrogen to run the (LRT) light rail train,” he announced.
That is why he had instructed Sarawak Energy Berhad to set up a hydrogen unit.
He emphasised again that Sarawakians should not be bothered by negative criticism but concentrate on achieving the state’s target by becoming good businessmen.
“We are the new Arabs,” he said.
Abang Johari stressed that he preferred to ignore all criticism and instead focus on what needed to be done to develop Sarawak into a digital economy.
He said this when responding to a question raised by a participant at Forum Belia Tegas 2017 held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.
The participant said that there were criticism that Abang Johari’s idea of turning Sarawak into a digital economy was not original because the federal government is already embarking on it and has came out with online applications such as E-rezeki.
“We do not want to waste time quarreling. We will work hard until 2020 and show them who we are and what we are capable of,” said Abang Johari.
