KUCHING: National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) statistics show that the youngest drug abuser on record is a seven-year-old child.
Since 2014, AADK has monitored 2,236 drug users where the majority of them were young people.
In 2014, there were 751 drug abusers monitored by the agency and in 2015, 810; 2016, 498 and for 2017 until August, there are 177 registered with the agency.
Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Assistant Minister Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali revealed the AADK statistics while attending the launching of ‘Community Empowerment Programme: Drug Elimination’ at a local shopping mall here yesterday.
She pointed out that the 2015 statistics was particularly worrying as it showed that there was an upward trend in the number of drug abusers, especially the young ones succumbing to drug abuse, the youngest being only seven-years-old.
Presently, AADK has identified 178 drug risk areas in Malaysia.
