KUCHING: The Lanterns of Unity 2017 procession will be held this Saturday, Oct 7 where 3,000 lanterns will be distributed to participants.
The event is co-organised by Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) and Sara Urusharta Sdn Bhd as well as Tun Jugah Management Corporation.
It is organised to celebrate Kuching being a City of Unity and also to commemorate the Mid-Autumn Festival or Mooncake Festival which is also called the Lantern Festival.
As many as 3,000 free lanterns will be distributed at various collection points including Sarawak Plaza, Tun Jugah, UTC Sarawak and Riverside Shopping Complex starting 6.30pm.
The procession will start at 7.30pm from Sarawak Plaza which SUPP youth chief Tan Kai who has been invited as the guest-of-honour is expected to flag off.
The procession will end at about 8.00pm behind Grand Margherita Hotel and participants may continue to enjoy the rest of the night by watching a performance by Gerontix Harmoix Band.
All Kuchingites are invited to join and families are most welcome.
