GEDONG, Nov 29: One hundred and fifty secondary school students in Gedong immersed themselves in interactive combustion science experiments introduced by the Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) Powering Knowledge: Discover PETRONAS at Schools Reach Out Gedong programme.

Through the engaging ‘Combustion Show’ by Petrosains, students were offered a hands-on learning experience—learning about the combustion triangle of fuel, oxygen, and heat; elements essential to ignite a fire.

According to a press release by PETRONAS today, the demonstrations showcased how the components interact to cause and extinguish a fire.

Students also experienced lessons in constructing solar-powered fans and scrubbing machines using basic materials and simple electric circuits first-hand, which added a practical dimension to their science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning.

Additionally, PETRONAS showcased its education sponsorships under the Powering Knowledge initiative, with past scholars sharing career experiences to inspire and encourage students, reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to nurturing future talent.

The programme, aimed at sparking students’ interest in STEM and technical, vocational education, and training (TVET), also featured motivational talks, with sessions highlighting career opportunities in the oil and gas (O&G) industry.

Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais, advisor of the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, and Investment Development (MINTRED), officiated the symbolic launch of the programme.

Earlier in November, similar outreach initiatives were conducted in Miri and Kapit, reaching a total of 335 students and teachers, further expanding PETRONAS’ efforts to promote STEM and TVET education across Sarawak. — DayakDaily
