SIBU, June 12: The High Court here ordered the wife of a former bank branch manager to enter her defence today for the charge of abetting in his murder in 2012.
Judge Datuk Norcahaya Arshad made the decision against Ling Hang Tsyr, 36 after the prosecution side had successfully established a prima facie case against her.
Ling and her boyfriend, Tiong King Guan, 30 were charged with abetting in the murder of Wong Jing Kui, 31, a former HSBC branch manager at 1.30am on June 14, 2012 at his home in Jalan Ulu Sg Merah.
Another accused, Ling Hoe Ing, 28, is currently serving a 16-year jail sentence after he pleaded guilty on Oct 1, 2013, to the alternative charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Following that, Tiong and Ling were discharged but not amounting to an acquittal.
The charges were reinstated in February 2015 after the prosecution filed an appeal to the Court of Appeal but Tiong went missing and still at large that a warrant of arrest had been issued against him.
This had led to Wong’s family members offering RM50,000 reward for those who could provide information leading to his arrest.
Abetment in murder is punishable with a mandatory death sentence, upon conviction.
